Houses and Horses in Iceland

Tomorrow is our last day on tour but we will have a few more days to relax in Reykjavik before returning to the UK for our last Morris tour. So our report for today…….the intermittent rain didn't dampen our spirits and we were treated to a glimpse of some of the local homes in Akureyri through our coach window…….

And check out the red traffic light………….

We travelled through snow topped mountains………...

During the morning we witnessed a display of the magnificent Icelandic Viking horses in action. These horses have been on the island for 1,000 years and if they ever leave they cannot return to keep the breed pure. They can live up to 35 years and we heard of many that have won awards………...

They are known to be strong and good tempered and we observed their unique fifth gait which is very fast and smooth reaching 45kms an hour……

Then we were off again for a few more sights……...

 Lunch in a fishing village……...
but not really sure about sampling the dried fish……...

The bay is known for seals but these are the only ones we saw………..

I have a feeling this creature might like the dried fish though!
Thanks again for dropping by and for all your lovely messages. I haven't been able to answer them all with internet issues and the blog sometimes takes up to two hours as well…..but we are glad our travels bring pleasure to others  x

  1. I can't say the fish looks all that appealing to me :) the other views though have been fantastic - understand internet issues when traveling we face that all the time. Have fun on the next leg of the trip
