The Grandest of Sleeping Quarters!

We are both a tad weary after our 3am start but it didn't take long to feel rejuvenated with special friends arriving for our ten days together doing all things William Morris…..and a bit extra! Our first six nights are in the grandest of buildings which I struggle to call a hotel…..it is almost insulting to call it that……I am sure you can hear the "Wow" and my usual "Far Out" as we arrived to this……..
And that is our room right up the top in the centre………..
The main entrance introduces us to the age dating back to medieval times…..it is recorded the first family lived here in 1224!…...
I have several pages of history to read but you can see some of the inside here at the website…...Great Fosters. The entrance makes one step back in time………..and my oh my what quilt designs are spinning in my head just from the ceiling….

And this is our room……not the biggest of rooms but oozing with history and character complete with a deep bath………bliss!
The walls are draped in fabric…..divine……….

This grand establishment is set in 50 acres of gobsmackingly beautiful surrounds……...

It is thought that Henry VIII used Great Fosters as a hunting lodge and that his daughter Elizabeth I used it for the same purpose. I need to find the crest at the entrance that has the original royal crest with the date 1598. We had a welcome cuppa in the Anne Boleyn room which has ceiling decorations encompassing more royal insignia…….more photos to come of all that……….

I rescued some evidence of a recent wedding in the garden……...

As always Helen has pulled out all the stops and what a way to celebrate our final trip to the UK…..thankyou Helen and everyone who is joining us…….and for you at home…..enjoy following our journey on the blog! x

The ceilings are superb, a quilt in the making from every room. i am looking forward to your next instalments, hard to see how Helen can top her previous efforts but i am sure she will give it a damned hard try. Sit back and enjoy the ride

  9. Magnificent beyond magnificent. I am so envious but so happy you got to experience this and share with us. The age of these houses awes me. And a big reminder how new we are in Canada!
