A day of sun and good times

We've had another wonderful day……it started with a quiet time of reflection at the Runnymeade Commonwealth Airforces Memorial where 20,456 men and women are recorded as having lost their lives in WW2 lost without trace and with no known grave……….a very special place……….

A short drive later we shared in a historic monument where the Sealing of the Magna Carta occurred at Runnymeade….but first someone found some ice-cream!……

A walk up to the Kennedy Memorial…..this piece of land land was given to the American people…….

This is the latest installation called The Jurors, an artwork by Hew Locke to mark the 800th anniversary since the sealing of the Magna Carta in 1215. Each bronze seat represents past and ongoing struggles for freedom, rule of law and equal rights around the world………..

Following lunch we headed to the magnificent Arts and Crafts House Standen, designed with meticulous detail by architect Philip Webb….but first Alan our driver needed a little rest……...

We had some time to shop so Alan courageously took all the shopping to the coach so we could start the garden tour………….

A recent art installation built by Will Shannon created much interest. It was built entirely by hand to reflect all that the Arts and Crafts movement stands for……….

 A bed with a view……..

I did have a minor shock on our walk……quite literally as I leant over a fence to chat to these girls…..I found out quite fast that the fence was electrified!…….
Then it was time to view the interior of the house still designed by the genius of Philip Webb and full of William Morris textiles and wallpapers and May Morris embroideries………...

This section of carpet is new….it is actually a facsimile joining the old and giving one a sense of space inviting you in to the room…..not that we could go over the barriers!………..

And somehow Faye always finds stray cats! We've had a fabulous day once again and the sun shone nearly all day!
