A taste of Adelaide
Today we caught up with one of Larry's previous work colleagues and enjoyed the tastes, sights and sounds of the Adelaide Central Market. More of that shortly. I've been busy preparing for the 2013 William Morris tour and also stitching like a mad woman so I can enter a quilt in our November Guild exhibition - and it needs to be finished in 4 and a half weeks before we leave for the UK! Between quilting I've also been interstate to judge a quilt show - that was an incredible experience especially as I had to do it solo....but a fantastic honour to be asked. So now I am back quilting, quilting, quilting ....(sorry I can't reveal too much of the quilt until after the show)
The medium value background I selected has been very challenging to use. It was hard to select applique fabrics that contrasted well and it is has also been hard to see while machine quilting (!!). I have also been adding a little of that Palestrina stitch by hand - it is very addictive!
And this is the little marker I use so I don't forget where I've finished my last row of machine quilting.........
Of course we have had some precious time with the little man seen here with Larry (who has been named "Papa" by Beau)........
And then I got my small portable Singer out to do some piecing for Emily - so of course I had an instant helper!..........
So today was a special day catching up with a work colleague of Larry's. She planned the event and took us on a tour of the Adelaide Central market 'through her eyes'. Margaret lives in an Eco village in the city and frequents the market at least weekly. Check this link HERE to read about this sustainable inner city village where she lives. Margaret knew the best bargains and the freshest produce. The sights and smells are breathtaking......
My late Dad used to occasionally bring these fish shaped lollies home for us as a treat........
Australian flowers.......
And as Margaret is Malaysian she treated us to a carefully selected feast for lunch.........
These two photos are for you Tam...........
Belgian chocolate crackles.........wow
We also discovered a new cup cake shop - the second branch from BTS so the staff graciously posed and allowed photos......check the chandeliers over the barista!!......
oh my - such gorgeous grandeur to eat a cupcake!.....
I was invited to view the loos too......
So of course we couldn't leave without buying a cupcake for Beau! Came across this gorgeous 1871 shop on the way for a coffee.....
which is now home to Push Pin Boutique...simply divine......
We finished off with a coffee and this is for you Helen in the UK (and friends from last year's tours)....here is an Eccles Cake Adelaide market style!!!
Thanks for a fabulous few hours Margaret. I know you miss Larry at work terribly but we will do lunch and market more often xx
Hope those of you dropping by the blog are having a good week wherever you are....thanks for visiting and take care xx
