Believe it or not this is a cooking rotisserie where the meat would hang from the hook as it would spin above the fire…...
Wordsworth's writing chair……...
and the couch that Wordsworth would lie on…...
And a wonderful quilt over 200 years old and almost entirely appliquéd too……….
The museum has an enormous collection of Wordsworth's personal items but for me the handwriting meant the most. Often it was his sisters that would write as he dictated……….
Some of our group had a turn too……...
The irony of Wordsworth's life is that this little history book made him more money than his poetry…...
The view from his backyard was truly special……..
and then we had a few hours to wander the village of Grasmere……..
including a mandatory visit to his grave as well……...
Tomorrow will be filled with Beatrix Potter so more of that soon x
My goodness that quilt is in excellent shape - 200 years old! Wow. I love the reclining couch with the coverlet
ReplyDeleteEverything is so interesting there, but that quilt caught my eye. Pattern worthy, I think, especially for all those quilters who like to reproduce antique quilts. Thanks so much for your sharing, Michele.
ReplyDeleteWonderful to follow your journey once again. it brings back memories of our last trip in 1984. We both love the Lake District and bought an antique oak cupboard from John Young & Son in Keswick and had it shipped home with the stained glass window panels inside. The carvings on the cupboard were used for much of Ken's decorative casting throughout the building. Once again beautiful photography and wonderful to wake up to in the morning. XXXX
ReplyDeleteLooks so lovely. Thanks for sharing these beautiful photos.
