William Morris Overload

We've had a day full of William and May Morris and it is almost 13 hours since we left this morning, so I am sorry to say the blog is going to be lots of pictures and little natter from me! Our day started at Hammersmith beside the Thames where we visited the headquarters of the William Morris Society and the home of Morris's final days - Kelmscott House. Recently the society received funding for refurbishment so much was in storage…….but we still learnt a great deal from a very knowledgable Peter…………

A final look at my books in their library…….and I'm chuffed of course!…...
 things to tempt us……...

Lunch at the Black Lion with a walk past No 7 Hammersmith, the home of Emery Walker - Morris's typographer and next door where May Morris lived for a time. Emery Walker's home is also closed for refurbishment………...

After lunch we had five wonderful hours at the William Morris Gallery at Walthamstow and what a wonderful wall mural on the property next door……….

Since my last visit there is a new garden with plantings reflecting Morris's designs……….

And what a privilege to have friends here sharing in my obsession!……...

 The loyal trio from home!……...

Up close and personal with some of May Morris's beautiful embroidery……….

Love the intent look from Delma…and she is actually holding one of Morris's original wood blocks too……..

 and then drinks and canapés………..

 the fabulous loo doors……..

A wee rest on the stairs before a wonderful dinner also at the Gallery. It has been a fabulous day and our heads are spinning with the talent of William and May Morris with the added bonus of an informative lecture from the talented Dr Lyn Hulse……thanks again Helen…….
