Morris marries in Oxford

Our second day in Oxford and we found where William Morris married at St Michael of Northgate.......a copy of the wedding certificate below with images of the interior......

I lit the candle to the right of the red one for Morris

And the city views from the rooftop of the church.......

The exterior views were hard to get as it is right in the heart of the city centre
....but you do get a good view of the Saxon tower.
This is Oxford's oldest building and was constructed approx 1000 years ago.
I could really feel a presence of William and his bride Jane - it was very special
And this afternoon we did the obligatory open top bus tour - here are some views......

Above is Exeter College where Morris studied
C.S. Lewis and Tolkien were literature tutors who called themselves the "Inklings". They met in this pub The Eagle and Child to discuss what they were writing. It was incredible to have the colleges pointed out to us where Bob Hawke (ex Aust PM), Bill Clinton, Margaret Thatcher and many more studied.

So tomorrow we leave Oxford for Broadway in the Cotswolds for Day One of the inaugural William Morris tours..see you then!

  1. Wow, how exciting for me to see those photos as it was Lincoln College that my son attended. Have fun in Broadway, another favorite spot. Can't wait to see more of the tour.6 EDeinfo
