More Houston quilts

Larry spent part of the day today at the Holocaust Museum....very far removed from my day. It is wonderful to just have time on my own taking in all that I want to see. Here are a couple of Japanese quilts that I kept going back to. They are from the same artist and both are portraits of her grandchildren...just beautiful and no paint or ink on the surface - just all fabric........and no awards for this work??....goodness the standard here can be quite overwhelming!!

It was wonderful to watch people admiring quilts made by friends from home........

I also hovered around a quilt made by Kathi Carter - a quilter from Utah who has used my designs before. She has emailed me a couple of times with photos of her beautiful work and we planned to meet up while I was here. All Kathi's quilts are named after her grandchildren and both 'Emily' and 'Andrew' have won her awards. Here she is with 'Andrew' and it was so exciting to finally meet in person and such a great thrill to know my designs give not only pleasure but awards as well. Great to meet you Kathi and congratulations once again xx

 A few inevitable tears........

The crowds here have to be seen to be believed. Over 60,000 attended last year and I am told tomorrow will be even busier than today. Lunch time and chairs are sparse, but it doesn't matter where you sit - a quilter will always make you feel welcome especially if you have an Australian accent. The US girls are just so friendly and so well mannered in the crowed aisles - "excuse me" is the favoured comment!

There is even an ATM on wheels!
This is the dining area and taken 2 hours after lunch........
The vendor floor and there are over 500 of them!

The area for the quilts is wonderful.....lots of space and it never feels crowed - except around the winners circle!

This quilt is for you Sophie.........

Love the Texan car number plates............
This vendor has been very popular and sold out early today - I have promised Larry that we will take a sample tomorrow.........
