Burford, Bampton and Bottles of wine

........but I  am told this post should say "Damp in Downton and wet in Whitney"!!  So as you've gathered the heavens opened but off we set for some shopping in Burford......
No visit to the church today with a wedding on..........

Here ' tis dear.......

Elaine got the purchase of the day...a gorgeous arts and crafts style cushion........
After lunch we headed to Witney Antiques.....it is just like a museum full of the most amazing antique samplers and embroideries. We headed off to find the bear shop and got rather drenched walking back to the bus......

As a special treat Helen planned a visit to Bampton and the best part was seeing the church, the hospital and Mrs Crowley's home........yes.....home to Downton Abbey! But first the walk towards those special places........
The Downton Abbey hospital which is actually the Bampton library.......
The large tree and square at the front of the church which is often seen in the series. I can recall Anna thinking she saw John Bates behind that tree........
 Mrs Crawley's home........
 and the church.......

More views of Mrs Crawleys home........

More charm in the village of Bampton......

Helen had organised a 'fab' dinner in a local eatery.........

To our amusement our only male member of the group had an admiring crowd of young people.....very excited as they had never met an Australian in Bampton....well so they told us!!.........
Another wondeful day even if it did rain...more tomorrow

  1. Loved seeing those photos, reminded me of that weekend when we watched the series on TV while we were sewing!

  2. So what is it like to be a tourist attraction?? Funny. I try to put Downton Abby out of my mind as it is such a LONG wait from March to Jan for the next series.
