Autumn Ambling

The colours of Autumn are always so very welcome in the Hill house......it means the long hot summer is over and the nights are much cooler. So during the week we headed to the Hills to capture some of this lovely season.....

We had a long amble up and down the main street of Hahndorf and I noticed a small version of the wonderful Adoration tapestry from William Morris in the window of the Artorium store that happened to be closed..maybe just as well as I am sure it was way over my budget!........

I wonder if insects created these lace effects........
And there were so many mushrooms that looked so very tempting but one never knows if they are safe to eat...so they were left for the fairies......

It was a beautiful Autumn day with a chill in the air so cosy inside some of the cafes.......
Oh to be able to fit into one of these....I just love them!
There is even Autumn colour at home this year. I planted a liquid amber and a crepe myrtle two years ago and the colours today are beautiful......
as are the roses....oops...still going on about the roses but only just a few blooms left!!!

We are having a bit of a make-over out the front of the house just to give some more street appeal. We are expecting some black wrought iron feature fencing for either side of the house and a brand new black letterbox. I thought I knew the design I wanted but very quickly the contractor said he felt sure I'd be wanting Fleur-de-lis....so that is what it will be.....I must look like a fleur-de-lis type person! So we have some new black pots with Lilly Pillies in them and they are already shooting so they must be very happy there. I thought the trim on the pots was very Morris like.........at least he does get another mention on the  blog!....

I've rescued a lavender seedling that is doing well along with some more repotted plants.......

This is the hydrangea you gave me Pam M and I know it will be much happier now it is in the garden.......
We've also bought a patio lemon and lime tree of the dwarf variety so we hope they give us crops in years to come..........

and I picked up this gorgeous Erica at the plant shop as well........
The 'future butterflies' are still chomping away but this year the bush has had a chance to flower. I've not seen the flowers before and they are rather unusual........
Tomorrow is Mother's Day here in Australia. I am not really much into this event...just like my own late Mother who used to be the same. She used to say "every day should be Mother's Day" and I tend to agree. Too much commercialisation so I've asked for no gifts....instead we are sharing brunch with the family where Tim and Sophie will be cooking up a treat. So of course I just have to share these two special little people. I feel so blessed to have had children and now grandchildren and they sure make us smile. Maisie is drawing in the waiting room at her ear specialist and showing off her Ikea pinafore I made her..........
But poor Beau is in this precarious pose following a neck spasm.  Poor boy was in this position for a whole day before the physiotherapist got to him........must have frightened him but he could still smile......
And finally this gorgeous card that Maisie made for Emily for Mother's Day...so very precious.....
I must also mention a blog for you to visit! Some time ago I told Helen in the UK about a quilter here in Australia who is obsessed with Jane Austen and has made a series of quilts inspired by everything about her. I can remember phoning Katrina to tell her I was passing on her name to Helen of Whitecroft tours and I can still recall the squeal of excitement from Katrina on the phone!  Her first Jane Austen Tour with Helen was two years ago and they are all arriving in the UK this week before another tour starts tomorrow. Katrina usually blogs about it all so you can follow it like I will be from the comfort of home. Visit Katrina HERE. Enjoy and much love to all the Mums in the world x

  4. Michele I still think about the day Mal & I spent with you in 2014. You took us to Harndorf for lunch and while we were walking up the street you were in full voice telling me something amazing when you stopped walking and speaking cause you had spotted some William Morris bags for sale, I was so busy listening I hadn't even noticed - you saw them by instinct I am sure! Then we went to Thorngrove Manor and after that I couldn't work out what was the highlight of the day! It all was! Hugs from Rotorua xxx
