Helen and I spent some time a few months back going backwards and forwards by email full of ideas and places to go and sometimes Helen had already thought of the same idea as me. So our Oxford based tour is now almost full....I think only one place is left and you can see more of all that here: William Morris and the Arts & Crafts Movement and also on my blog when I first announced the news: Never say Never exciting news and more of it all on this post here: UK Morris Tour news. So now it is time to share the 'other' tour that you can read about here: William Morris meets Beatrix Potter tour. So many wonderful places to see and the connection between William Morris and Beatrix Potter's lives is both serendipitous and fascinating. So here are some of the places we will be visiting.......some I don't have photos of so I have linked the source below each image. First up the amazing Castle Howard.....
Being close to York one must visit the magnificent York Minster........
Remember Terry's orange chocolate segments? Well we will be visiting the magnificent Arts & Crafts style home of the Terry family - Goddards House and Gardens......
and another magnificent place that has been on my bucket list forever is Cragside to view William Morris in splendour.......
Harrogate is on our list and will include a visit to the Royal Pump Museum.....
You can see more like the above pieces at this link: Gawthorpe Textiles Collection
The collection of the Bowes Museum will be a treat as we will have a privileged and private tour of treasures from Arts & Crafts artefacts to textiles.......and dinner in a room decorated in silks!.....
And if that dinner wasn't enough for you we will be dining in style at Ripley Castle as well!....
And now I can use my own photos starting with a few from Blackwell where our journey is closer to Beatrix Potter and the Lake District. This Arts & Crafts house stole my heart and during our visit in 2016 I took 252 photos! So much inspiration......
And Levens Hall had me swooning with just as many photos taken......it will be lovely to return to see one of the oldest topiary gardens in the UK (the first photo on the post today is from here too)...
More garden inspiration this time at Holehird Gardens in the Lake District......
And the heart and soul of Beatrix Potter countryside visiting a working herdwick sheep farm.....
And of course a visit to Hill Top goes without saying.....
and my version too........
and the letterbox with Peter Rabbit........
What a wonderful 10 days it will be and Helen has included so much more that I haven't included in this post. We will be based in the same hotel for the entire tour which is such a bonus. This will be our home for 10 nights in the heart of Yorkshire and in the centre of all the places we will visit........... and there are 19 more months to save the pennies! Fill in your enquiry for the tour HERE. Thanks for dropping by and maybe we will see you in 2020 in the UK! x
The third picture in the Gawthorpe Hall section isn’t actually part of the collection there. It is a Needlecase designed by Jenny Adin-Christie using elements from the life of Miss Rachel, guardian of Gawthorpe for many years. Jenny taught it at Gawthorpe last year. Looks a wonderful tour.
ReplyDeleteThankyou so much Amanda for alerting me to the error.....I think I googled Gawthrope Textiles and the image came up...pays to be more attentive on my part so I have rectified that. Oh but how beautiful Jenny Adin-Christie's work is and I have admired if from afar for many years. And how lucky for those living in the UK who can do workshops with her! For those of you reading this message do visit Jenny's website to see more: http://www.jennyadin-christieembroidery.com/Home.html
ReplyDeletethis all looks so beautiful I wish it was in my reach. One day? This must be such a plus for you to stay in the same hotel for the long stay makes it much easier to unpack the bags and make yourself to home.
ReplyDeleteFabulous tour planned - alas I'm like Karen - beyond my reach. I look forward to your photos for my armchair trip. I chuckled when I saw that photo that shows the greengrocer named Neeps & Tatties (at Helen's site). I've just been reading a book where the hero hates haggis but will tolerate neeps & tatties. Love that quilt you show from Gawthorpe. You're going to have a wonderful trip.
