More William Morris in Adelaide

Last night saw the beginning of our fifth and final 2018 Adelaide William Morris Tour and the group are full of enthusiasm for the week to come. Today was spent in the city with our first stop at the Art Gallery of SA where we were treated to textiles, furnishings and stunning embroideries. These two pieces were designed by May Morris and she named them both "Adelaide" in honour of the Barr Smith family. I found a great article about them HERE. They are behind glass so it is difficult to get good images.....
and this table cover was named "Australia" for the same reason in recognition of the lucrative Barr Smith clients. After I took this photo (all on my phone as I had left my camera on the bus!), I noticed that our group is in the reflection as they were helping themselves to our beautiful gallery lunch......
Again the reflections detract from the rich silk embroidery........

It is always wonderful to see William Morris's hand written notes and colour shading of a planned design.......

One of my very favourite pieces.........

I love these historic military barracks behind the gallery as we headed towards our next place of interest...........

The historic Mortlock Library was opened in 1884 and has been named in the top 20 most beautiful libraries of the world alongside The Bodleian in Oxford and Trinity College Dublin........
Adelaide Arcade all dressed for Christmas........

My images of the Morris Federation windows are not so good from my phone camera but always good to see in person...........

So we have some more exciting days ahead this week! Now you might think you have seen these images before but I am doing them again as I deleted my last post. The news of local tours was really for locals only. I am so sorry but there are of course the current tours for others HERE! I wanted these images for my records in memory of special days with the little people......

On a recent hot day we were looking after both the little boys who have a special cousin bond. But little Wade didn't venture into the paddle pool as he thought it was too cold!........
I will leave you with these inspirational words I found on a wall near the hotel where the Morris group is staying x

  4. Love the photos Michele, I must see the Mortlock library next time I am in Adelaide, I have never heard of it. My favourite Morris photo was that gorgeous pattern on the chair.
