Today I received the most wonderful gift in the post…..a brand new quilt book from Tamsin of Berrima Patchwork! I met Tam several years ago when I was invited to teach in the shop that she co-owns with her mother(and I have been back several times since!) Tam often watched me "at work" in the classroom especially when we did a design class and I could tell it was something she had a yearning for. In fact she has a natural ability to see symmetry and design instantly…..she even developed a layout technique that had me saying…"why didn't I think of that"! And wow - look at her now….her very first book with C and T Publications and what a stunning book it is……….
And how special to have this little acknowledgement in the front from Tam to me…thanks Tam x
The photography is stunning and the history fascinating. Tam travelled to Turkey for the photos and quilt settings and this just adds to the book experience……..
The projects are stunning and for all levels of appliqué…..and use my favourite raw edge technique with a tiny blanket stitch. Some projects could be achieved with the needle-turn method if you are more patient than me……..
The step by step and 'how-to' sections are very clear and easily understood…...
especially the step by step machine appliqué technique……..
I cannot pick a favourite project (there are eight in total) but love these bags……..
And I could even see this hanging on my wall……….
So if you are a lover of Turkish Iznik tiles and appliqué you must add this book to your shelf……..you will not be disappointed. And well done Tam - you must be chuffed to bits - and thank you for my own personally signed copy!
Oh! I have always loved those tiles since we went to Istanbul and saw them everywhere. Thanks for the great review and photos of this book, Michele - I'll keep my eye out for it. WIth it by C&T we're sure to get copies here in the States.
ReplyDeleteIf the cover is only a taste it is so yummy!
ReplyDeleteDefinately need that in Loose Stitches shop, can't wait
Well done Tamsin (& Michele)
