A day on the train

We arrived in Hamilton late yesterday after our long day on the train. The service on the train was amazing and we even had our suitcases taken from us and placed on a special carriage. We left Wellington at 7.55am and arrived in Hamilton at 4.30pm but the long day was very relaxing with so much to see. As we waited to leave we noticed the river of commuters all heading to work on the other platform. We felt very lucky that we weren't in their shoes..........
Farewell to the beautiful Wellington harbour as we headed north.......
Just in the distance we could see the South Island......
I got a very quick snap through the window of a pheasant following us......
and a large field of deer - felt like we could have been in the UK!.........
I had some knitting to do and completed a beret for a new doll for Maisie........

The hills are so green and the sheep certainly have wide open space........
We crossed many viaducts and the views below them were spectacular........

and a peek of the snow topped mountains in the distance.....
 Love the sugar sachets......

Lots of spring lambs but it doesn't really feel like spring........

At the back of the train there was a viewing carriage but it was very cold and windy out there......

The snow views were fabulous but it was freezing in the viewing carriage.......

we noticed a herd of cows in what looked like a huge veggie patch!......

This is the Raurimu Spiral that we traveled through and the engineering history is fascinating......

We even saw a few hedgerows.........
The quilts are all hung at the venue and this afternoon I am having an enforced rest. I obviously ate something I shouldn't have at lunchtime (again!!), and an hour later started to have the signs of an allergic reaction. By the time I got back to the hotel the pins and needles and swelling in the mouth had started but a few antihistamines later and a good lie down we are back ready for three days of fun at the fair. More of that soon x

  1. I'm glad you enjoyed the train trip. I think those cows are eating swedes / turnips. The snow is well down on Mt Ruapehu in your photos, so it will still be very cold in the central North Island. I hope you feel better tomorrow and meet lots of nice people at the show.

  2. The train ride looks so wonderful such a chance to sit back and see all of the scenery - a chilly time to do this :) but so nice to see the snow on the mountains. I love reading about New Zealand and seeing the photos - I'm traveling along with you to see it all LOL -- hope you are feeling better allergic reactions are not fun have had a few myself and hate them.
