AQC 2015 part 1

Well here we are once again in Melbourne for the 2015 Australasian Quilt Convention! This is the fourth time I have had the honour of teaching here and this year the event has been spectacular. I am a tad weary after two days of intensive design tuition and with 20 students that was no mean feat! But as I told them all….'if I can do it anyone can'. Thanks for spending time with me girls and good luck with your creations. The world heritage listed Royal Exhibition building is such a wonderful venue……

The machines were a little idle in class for the first day with lots of creations being sketched instead……...
A wonderful improvement this year is the windows to each class partition - much more light and we all felt more inclusive of the buzz downstairs…only it did feel a little like being in a "zoo" so of course I just had to add a little label on my class window!!……….

It is also a great honour to see ten of my quilts hanging as a part of the amazing award I received last year (which is still quite surreal)………

And here he/she is Nydia and Ken on holiday from Thorngrove Manor for a few days! It is lovely to see it hanging but the venue is a little dark so photos are not the best (the down side of an older building)….

All my quilts are glad to be out of storage for a few days!…...

The special displays this year are fabulous. Some of the True Blue challenge quilt finalists……..Jan Clark was runner-up…….

Prue Wheal from my home state has produced another amazing masterpiece………..

 And the winner……….

Lucy Carroll's Gallipoli quilts were very moving………

Judy Hooworth has a wonderful display of quilts inspired by the Silk Route journey she took………

I loved this work from a french artist - Segolaine Schweitzer………

Jan Irvine Nealie's work is visually captivating……from the distance they look like a photo but close-up all is revealed………..

And from a lovely friend from home…..here it is Tara hanging with the Best of the Best!…...

So it is time for me to have a soak in the tub before another day of teaching. I will finish with this photo of a jacket I so wish I owned…..sad it belongs to one of the students! I will report the finale of the convention in a few days...

  4. Hi Michele - thanks for the great workshop at AQC Day 1. I loved it and the confidence you have given me to have a go at designing my own ideas. PS - That coat looks very familiar. You will have to get one of your own!!! :)
