So when one reads of the loss of life fighting the fires the emotions are overwhelming especially this image of these two young fathers who lost their lives and were also volunteers.......
So while feeling sombre I did record the heat in the garden which is nothing compared to losing one's entire property. The hydrangeas while in semi-shade still didn't cope so now my broken William Morris umbrella protects it.........
Other plants survived but tree leaves sizzled, petunias wilted and even a baby bird and grasshopper weren't so lucky........
We are reminded that we must protect the little ones from the sadness around us so we've enjoyed some special moments together during the week.....
I had a birthday a few days ago...always a busy time in the week leading up to Christmas but we enjoyed a dinner one night with friends.........
And I received this extra special gift in the post - a William Morris book published in 1934.....thankyou to that very special friend......
and Larry spoilt me with this wonderful outdoor mirror and I love the reflections and how it has added depth to our small back area.......
Topsy is oblivious to all the bushfire devastation so we continue to enjoy his company with the hope that when Christmas comes to you and your loved ones it is filled with joy and happiness x
I have been keeping track of all those fires and hope they do not get too close to you. It sounds like how California always seems to be in the summer here. I hope you get rain soon and that the fires get under control and do not get too close to you. the children's painted faces look so neat and festive that must have been fun and a belated Happy Birthday to you.
ReplyDeleteTopsy is beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI am so sorry to hear about the devastation the fires have brought on. I am happy to see the pictures of the sweet kiddos. They do make our lives so much more meaningful
I love all of the photos you shared. Absolutely beautiful
Merry Christmas dear Michele to you and yours
Happy birthday Michele! Glad you had some special family time to celebrate. Friday was a awful day and spent it waiting to here about friends who live at Woodside - the firefighters saved their house and their neighbour the tractor, but the rest is gone. They are grateful, but overwhelmed with loss of years of hard work and faced with repeating it ten fold. To loose everything with such a young family is tough, tough to explain it to the kids when you cannot grasp the enormity of it yourself. Wishing your family and the SA community a wonderful Christmas and lots of respite for the fire fighters and the communities they are trying to protect.
ReplyDeleteWell said Michele, so much devastation and sadness in this world of ours. Thinking of you xxx
ReplyDeleteOur hearts and prayers go out to you all. It reminds me of our (in the USA) west coast wildfires. My cousin's husband is an Oregon pilot that flies a plane that dumps fire retardant on the flames all over the West Coast of USA. The loss breaks our hearts.
ReplyDeleteBelated birthday wishes, as well as, belated Christmas greetings. I am saddened to read of all the loss of life and devestation the fires have caused. The same has been happening in California as well. All the needless killings are breaking my heart for all these folks. However, I am happy to hear that you are well and enjoy seeing all your photos. I wish you and your family all the best in the new year! Peace, love & hugs to you all! Lynne
