Show and Tell

Today I finally got some photos together to share with you.  Over the past couple of months I have received emails from excited quilters who have finished their projects and even won awards. Recently at the Queensland Quilter's Show two of my designs reaped rewards for two special quilters. Judy  has won awards for some of her other quilts in the past - including Morris inspired ones as well. This time was her stunning Sampler which received third prize for commercially machine quilted………good on you Judy...
Wendy received the 1st time entrant award for the Adelaide Sampler. Congratulations Wendy…
Carol emailed me recently to share in her gorgeous interpretation of 'Portiere' from my second book. This is in Carol's words:
"I was so inspired by your work when I heard you speak at Queensland Quilters a few years ago.I have attached some photos of a quilt that I have recently completed for my niece's wedding gift. Sherice wanted a wholecloth quilt with a lot of quilting on it. I had recently purchased one of your books and Sherice liked the flowing designs, but wanted it in blue and white. You will recognise the pattern, with a few additions, for your wall-hanging pattern
It certainly looks so different to that of yours and Williams colours.
All the quilting is freehand. I did not mark anything, only to place some freezer paper on the edge of the feathers to keep them contained.
I am very pleased with the result. I will be giving Sherice her quilt today, so I hope she likes it too. She will appreciate the work in it as when she lived at home she did do some patchwork & quilting."

It is just beautiful Carol and I do hope your niece was thrilled when she received it. It was also so nice to hear she is the kind of person who appreciates the time it takes to make theses works of art.

From further afield I heard from Di Abram in the UK. Di won seven (!!) awards for this quilt. The centre is from Rosemary Makhan's beautiful "Floral Abundance" book and the surrounding blocks are from my 'Friends' quilt in my first book. It also received Best of Show at the Great Northern Quilt Show in Harrogate (UK)……
Congratulations Di - it is certainly beautiful.

Finally another email from a UK quilter - Marion Meyers who also received 1st place at a local show for her 'Friends' quilt and I was chuffed to bits that the sashing is one of my fabrics!! Marion has plans to enter this quilt into a major show in Canada next year too. Thanks so much Marion and all the best when the quilt travels!
It is a lovely feeling to know that my drawings inspired by William Morris have such an affect on others. I so appreciate hearing your stories and it is even better when I hear you have gained an unexpected award as well!

And of course whenever I hear of Canada my thoughts go to our friends Penny and Paul. As our country warms up theirs is cooling down. Penny sent me these wonderful photos of frost on the car…….she thought they looked very like the flowing leaves of William Morris…….

Tomorrow is the beginning of our four day quilt show - The Quilters' Guild of SA's "Festival of Quilts". It is always with a sense of excitement that we see what others have been doing over the past year or so. The exhibition also renews one's enthusiasm and like my fellow quilters we enjoy sharing the experice. I will be doing some volunteer time demonstrating and photos will be on the Guild website soon. So for now - take care and thanks for dropping by xx
