Taking time out

From time to time everyone needs to recharge their batteries especially after a long and cold winter....almost like preparation for coming out of hibernation. So we are currently away doing just that and only 40 minutes south of where we live. It is also another opportunity to actually stay for a time in one of several proposed 'escape to the country' destinations for the future! This time we are enjoying an apartment that looks out over Encounter Bay and the next stop from that view across the ocean is Antarctica! The vista from the balcony has changed from day to day according to the weather, sometimes sunny but today the mist and rain has set in once again......

Encounter Bay was named by the English navigator Captain Matthew Flinders in 1802 as it was right here that he had an 'encounter' with the French explorer Nicolas Baudin so it is kind of special to be in a place of significance........

Larry was soon relaxed on the balcony (in his socks and thongs!), watching the many people walking by.......

The population certainly supports retirement as the median age for Encounter Bay at the last census was 64! There are so many walkers and in the last few days we've averaged 5kms each day ourselves so I am sure it would have an extra benefit. One sees all sorts including this couple taking their dog in a buggy for an amble......
While on our walks we've inevitably been attracted to the homes and many that have been renovated (and lots way out of our price range!).....

A couple of days ago the winds were extra strong and Larry had trouble hanging on to the shopping.....

It is so nice to be staying in a place with such wonderful ocean views and truly a home away from home.....

More news after our break....for now it is time to get back to the balcony to that sound of the waves lapping the shores.......

  5. Love getting down to Victor, used to go a lot, but not so much anymore. Hope you have had a good rest, and recharge. Funny you should mention Flinders and Baudin and their Encounter, as this was part of our sermon in church the other day!!! xxx
