The Race!

We had a wonderful hour this morning waiting and watching The Race and it was a very welcome break from the Morris event planning for Adelaide! I've spent the past week either on the phone, at the computer or visiting venues, so I am pleased to report it is starting to all fall into place!~ From the survey feedback we have established the most popular requests so it will be a 5 day, 6 night event where participants might like to extend to do other options on their own. I've updated the Adelaide Event page at the top of the blog so that you can see dates and the proposed itinerary but I am still waiting on some confirmations. An email will also be sent tonight to those on the list.
So this was our wonderful break this morning watching a brief moment of the very exciting Stage 3 of the Tour Down Under bike race and the anticipation while we waited is just wonderful. We decided to drive down into the Old Noarlunga village only 3 minutes from home.........

Lots of police on bikes and other riders waiting........

The police are fabulous beeping their horns and waving to the crowds.........

and then the first group of only four riders raced through....and they were about 4 minutes ahead of the peloton.........just amazing and Larry who is in the know tells me they are the break-away!........
I have a lot to learn......Yes Larry did ride a racing bike once!.......

And then they arrived......woo hoo and so many international teams.......

The photos do not show the speed but let me tell you they were very fast!.......

The riders had been racing for about 45 minutes when we saw them and they still had another three and a bit hours to go........

We then decided on a little amble by the river and then a pastie lunch before we headed back home to the computer and phone for more Morris event planning........

So my chest is puffed out and I feel extremely proud to be a South Australian right now! And we have a fabulous William and May Morris collection too.....did you know that??!!

  1. MIchele you have every right to be a very proud citizen of S.A. It is such a lovely state with very friendly folk. We too have a connection to the tour....one of the top kiwi riders - Jack Bauer is a close friend of our son. Jack is to be married in November in Perth and Anton & Michaela will fly out from Spain for the wedding. There's always someone who knows someone etc.
