A brief break

I am not sure why but I always achieve more if I am away from home and the routine. Our annual trips to Robe always result in new designs being created and being away to write the Beatrix Potter book proved fruitful too, so here we are just 40 minutes from home at the mouth of the mighty River Murray in the port of Goolwa. Larry has continued his PSA membership which means we can continue staying in holiday units at a reasonable price.....it has usually been Robe or Pt Vincent but this time Goolwa. The first thing is to always set up the sewing space and in two days I have already achieved a lot. Larry has had two days here but has had to return home today as he has some reports to complete, so this is my home for three more nights.......

Goolwa is full of history and of course charming cottages both old and new........

We are staying about 2kms from town so a morning coffee walk to kick start the day is essential.......

What a wonderful way of of utilising a dead tree.........

  Even local snakes and lizards......
We found a fabulous playground that is now on the radar to bring the little ones to in the future.......

The sunny skies looked threatening and the brollies were up soon after this photo........

Goolwa is also home to the Wooden Boat Festival and it was great seeing retired chaps hard at work...........

Love the use of these recycled wooden crates
At the end of the street where we are staying is a birdhide......

So after this quick post at home (I've just driven Larry back home to work), I will leave with one final exciting bit of news. I met Olinda at a workshop in Hopetoun three years ago that I recorded here where you can see a photo of Olinda holding up her 'in progress' work. This design was something I had very roughly drawn up but never actually finished and all based on some of the wonderful floor at the Hermitage Museum in St Petersburg..........
I shared the drawings in class and Olinda went on to complete the quilt. She sent me an email some weeks back to say she was entering the quilt at the Victoria Quilters' Showcase exhibition. Well excitement galore as Olinda won an award! Like her I was so excited to hear the news and thanks so much Olinda for sharing your photos - well done - it is beautiful and well deserved.......

I suppose I had better head back to the sewing that is waiting for me at Goolwa!

  1. what a lovely quilt you show at the end of post! your vacation place looks wonderful, what a nice place to unwind and try to finish up your work. I guess there must be too many distractions at home.

  4. Yes, just like retreats, a lot of quilting gets done. What a gorgeous quilt Olinda made with your design. Blessings. I've been on vacation myself and it's such a treat to come home to so many of your wonderful posts to read.
