I often contemplate on why we do what we do and why we react the way we react as we face hurdles along this journey called life. To find balance and contentment can be challenging but with friends and family surrounding us it makes it so much easier. Finding special friends is certainly one of life's rewards and I am forever grateful for them all. So it would seem as I sit here that I am obviously in a state of melancholy perhaps lamenting at something I am dreaming of that will have to wait for that "rainy day"! I do love prose and I even found that the "rainy day" meaning is on google........
My late mother's armchair is one of the most comfortable of all and I have been wanting to get it re-upholstered in one of the new Morris & Co 'Pure Morris' range fabrics. It needs to be upholstery fabric which restricts choice but the Willow Boughs weave seems to be top of my list.......
Which is quite surprising considering how mellow and neutral the print is compared to most of William Morris's busy and colourful prints. But I have come to realise that these bright bold prints don't really suit our small home amongst all my clutter! These rooms on the Morris & Co site are definitely mellow.......
Then again I think Mum's old chair could look quite spruced up wrapped in a new coat.......
When talking of colour I am constantly reminded of my own issues with having a condition called Tritanopia - a blue/yellow colour blindness that has been challenging at times in my quilt making! I was tested many years ago and the optician was incredibly excited as it is extremely rare. One of our daughter's has inherited it and I am sure one of the little ones possibly will as well. I challenge you to try this online test......for me it wasn't easy but in the scheme of things it is a minor barrier and as I say all the time......"beauty and colour are in the eyes of the beholder". This was my result from that test......
So maybe these neutral Morris hues are quite perfect and will work for me. Some years ago some black and white Morris prints for quilting came on the market and I enjoyed using them to make this quilt for a special person.......
And I was on the receiving end of a beautiful gift of a handmade wallet in one of those black and white Morris prints as well in the Brer Rabbit pattern.......
This wallet is so handy and the mobile phone fits snugly inside too so I have enrolled in a class in a few weeks to learn how to make some more.........
Well that was a load of garble about nothing.......guess I just need to fill in the blog diary so you know we are all still here! We've had a day in the garden this past week pruning all the roses and very strangely there were even some late blooms.....
So as always I will conclude with the young members of the family following yesterday's "happiness is" calendar page that says it all.......
And young Beau has lost his first tooth!.......
So my words for the week are that I truly believe all things including feelings, opinions and perceptions are in the "eyes of the beholder". Take good care and thanks for dropping by x
Once again dear friend, you delight me with your posts. Beautiful designs, fabrics and of course those grandchildren. I love watching them grow and the bonds between them. Wade is such a miracle. Sure made my day.
ReplyDeleteyour mother's chair does look quite comfy! wouldn't mind having one like that. Did you decide if you will get it reupholstered? Took the color test and I am ok!
ReplyDeleteAnother thoughtful post Michele, and lovely photos. Your grandies are certainly growing up fast.

I took the test. I am not colorblind. I like the print you are considering. It will be a wonderful background for all of your quilts. Always enjoy the photo of the kids. You are so lucky to have all of them nearby.
