The journey was not so long today and we had a chance to have a Montreal city tour before checking in to the hotel. The first views as we left Quebec are of the longest cantilever bridge in the world - the Quebec Bridge. The link is worth visiting:

A morning rest stop where we saw an assortment of real animal skin coats, hats and scarves for sale......
and cats for Faye....but not in my bag!!

First view is of the tunnel which goes under the river to Montreal - which is actually an island in the river.
Our first duty was to have a group photo with the
1976 Olympic Stadium as a backdrop. It is known as the "Big O" referring to its donut shape, but locally as the "Big Owe" as it took until 2006 to pay for it!
Then it was time for lunch and we finally found what Emily had told us to look for.....
a poutine. We had trouble finding one in Quebec but we were probably looking in the wrong places...but here in Montreal we even found a specialty Poutine cafe!
Now this is not for those on a diet....it is fries covered in gravy and curd cheese. I had chicken as well and couldn't even eat half of it!
Larry opted for the smoked meat sandwich which was laden with eleven layers of smoked and cured beef......he didn't leave a morsel!
After lunch we started the city tour. Our first stop was simply breathtaking....
The Notre Dame Basilica. The interior is made entirely of wood - pine and oak......
The chapel at the rear was burnt down in 1978 and was rebuilt and that is also breathtaking......

And on Larry's back is our first bit of snow!! It was about 2-3 degrees all day!
The remainder of our tour was done from the warmth of the bus.......
I just love being able to capture the reflections of the old in the new.......and all through my window!
The building on the far right (below) is known as the "cheese grater building"
The Carlton Ritz below is where Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton married......
Gerry our bus driver managed to make us feel at home.........
